Many people may have recognized the name of this healthy product brand, Xongdur. For 15 years, Xongdur has perpetually developed products from truly organic ingredients, in collaboration with local farmers at U Thong, Suphanburi, who have received certified organic seal, Organic IFOAM, and Organic EU.
The farmers were originally planting only brown rice, then Xongdur introduced their know-how and helped to expand the farmers’ potential by suggesting for them to also grow other unpolished wholegrain cereals such as soybeans, mung beans, millets, lotus seeds, white, and black sesame seeds.
In conjunction with the goal of the Thailand Trust Mark (T Mark), the principle of Xongdur’s manufacturing process is to be an ethically and environmentally friendly. Therefore, Xongdur does not label themselves only as an organic product but they also strive to raise the quality of life of the local farmers as well. The certified T Mark on the package of Xongdur can surely guarantee the quality of their extensive variety of products for instance, crispy no bake cereal bar that is made from 8 different types of cereal grains mixed with fruits like raisins, sun dried bananas, and cashew nuts; instant cereal drink that is available in many flavors such as black sesame soup, mixed ginger and black sesame soup, no-seasoning millet soup that is suitable for diabetics; or nutrient-rich baby food like Xongdur Baby which is made from grinded GABA rice and mixed with banana, pumpkin and spinach. The fundamental concept of Xongdur comes from the vision of Pakinee Jiwattanapaiboon Rph, Marketing and Research and Development Manager, who will talk us through Xongdor’s journey since its establishment to today’s success.
Improving the life of local farmers
Since the establishment in 2000, Xongdur had a mission to produce 100 percent organic, pesticide residue free products so they decided to work collaboratively with the local farmers in Suphanburi. They started the process by unveiling their goals and objectives to the famers in order to create a transparent and mutual understanding. They then educated the farmers about organic farming and created a roadmap for improving and developing the factory to meet the standards for it to be approved by GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), HALAL, and the most important, the Thailand Trust Mark which builds trust in the quality of the products.
Furthermore, they are also passionate to improve the quality of life of the local farmers as well. In the past, there were only two families in the farmers group in Suphanburi, but nowadays the number of members increases continuously because it has been proved that supplying products to Xongdur makes their quality of life better. Xongdur does not only work with the group of farmers in Suphanburii, but they also work with more than 100 farmers in Yasothon so they can also have a steady income from producing organic products.
Experimenting and learning for a new innovative breakthough
Xongdur formerly reseached and developed products by themselves but then shifted their strategy to collaborating with other related institutions to search for new possiblities from the existing materials. One of the prominent solutions is the cereal bar which was create to be consumed by diabetics patients. From a rigorous period of knowledge sharing and development with National Innovation Agency, Xongdur collaboratively developed a new type of sugar that the body can absorb less, hence lowering the level of blood CI (confidence interval), a perfect solution for patients with diabeties.
Xongdur also put their attention into the manufacturing process. Unlike conventional manufacturing methods, Xongdur deliberately chose to manufacture cereal flakes using the process of cooking by drum drying to manufacture snack bars mixed with tropical fruit like sun dried bananas instead of foreign fruits to give the sense of Thai.
